An inventive debut in the tradition of World War Z and The Martian, told in interviews, journal entries, transcripts, and news articles, Sleeping Giants is a thriller fueled by a quest for truth – and a fight for control of earthshaking power.
A girl named Rose is riding her new bike near her home in Deadwood, South Dakota, when she falls through the earth. She wakes up at the bottom of a square hole, its walls glowing with intricate carvings. But the firemen who come to save her peer down upon something even stranger: a little girl in the palm of a giant metal hand.
Seventeen years later, the mystery of the bizarre artifact remains unsolved—its origins, architects, and purpose unknown. Its carbon dating defies belief; military reports are redacted; theories are floated, then rejected.
But some can never stop searching for answers.
Overall 3.75 stars for the story 5 stars for the audio narration = 4 stars overall hoes! Let me break it down for y’all real quick. The story was a combo of oh shit and yes more pls sir!
The basic story is told through a series of interviews with a mysterious interviewer (we slowly learn little bits of info about thru the book) and the crew he assigns onto his secret giant alien artifact discovery team.
There were some minor lulls in the story’s pace that kept me from giving it a full 4 stars. But for the most part, it was exciting quick paced and I loved the connections to actual mythology and folklore that Neuvul wrote. (also enjoyed that the book was set in a myriad of different locations)
– The audiobook is honestly beautifully narrated and the multiple voices and great voice acting makes the book feel more like a live-action sci-fi movie happening in yo ear canals than a book. 10/10 would recommend the audiobook.
– It honestly got so addicting at one point ya hoe right here was willingly going back to the gym just to listen to the next chapter hohoho! and in the wise words of the poet Fergie thanks, Mr. Neuvel for helping me with my fitness! ya girls got a Resnick certified six pack going on (not really I wish but u know a girl can dream 💁).
-The characters were heaps of fun I liked Kara, Vincent the Chinese restaurant mystery dude and of course our snarky af mysterious interviewer. I even like dat hoe Ryan (even tho he is a hoe but aren’t we all hohoho!). Also, I lowkey and by lowkey I mean, high-key found vincents french Canadian voice super sexy hohoho.
– This book also has great action! It was fun seeing the crew slowly learn how to control the artifact and the learning curve all the characters took to get there was full of nice twists and turns.
But my fave scene perhaps (because I’m a sicko hohoho) was that one scene where the surgeon has Vincent’s

legs fucking surgically reversed. the lead up to that scene was bloody glorious. I was like ooooh shit that was set up so well hahaha!
Overall I’m super hyped to continue the series! The ending was great and from the reviews, it seems the next book is even better! Onto the next one.
Ok ya girl’s dusting off her review for this one. This was one of my favorite books of last year (2017) if not my favorite.
Sleeping Giants is a sort of sci-fi/thriller told in the POV of a very mysterious unnamed interviewer. I’ve seen for a lot of people, the interview style format which the book is told through throughout the whole book turned them off but I really enjoyed it personally. Especially as a newfound investigative journalist, I have a whole new appreciation for it hohoho.
The book was helped out MASSIVELY by the amazing audiobook, narrated with a full cast. And let’s be real here, Vincent’s narrator was very nice on ya girl’s ears hohoho. French-Canadian King bringing sexy back to the audiobook world!!
Honestly the audiobooks for this series are the best I’ve listened to, they really bring the story to life. Plot revolves around the discovery of mysterious artifacts that appear to be metal body parts of giants. Stay with me! The mystery is told alongside some personal drama amongst the research crew of Rose, Kara, Vincent and Ryan. There are twists and turns and all the good stuff a book like this should have. I definitely recommend this one! I remember loving Waking Gods (book 2) even more.
4 giant wigs! U did that Sylvain Neuvel!
F: for anyone needing a quick summary of the book here’s a cliff notes version ya girls conjured up:
