The author became the center of a cock filled controversy when she tried to copyright the word “cocky” in a non-trademark-able font.

In Shookitha’s expert opinion it simply looks like someone wrote “cocky” in a decent script with a dried out marker, it looks pretty low budget and generic. Apparently, the font used was bought from Creative Market. (source)

Under the “terms and conditions” said font cannot even be trademarked. Evidence shown below:

Upon discovering other books with the title “cocky,” said author allegedly went on a rampage trying to get other authors to change their book titles as she believed herself the one and only queen of cocky. Leading Faleena to slap cease and desist letters at every author who had the gall to ever use the word cocky in their title (the horror, the indignity of it all!)

In #byefaleena’s defense, her logic seemed to be that her fans were simply not smart enough to differentiate between one of her cocky books and the other myriad of cocky books and that it was her public duty to legally protect them from themselves.

It’s very considerate and sweet but one could remind her that Amazon and such places allow customers to return books purchased accidentally and legal action is perhaps not required. It should also be added that if a book is so easily mixed up with others perhaps a bit of originality would’ve been more beneficial in this case than cease and desist letters.

Faleena has handled the entire situation with the grace and maturity befitting someone who would legally threaten people for using the common English word cocky in their smut titles! By tweeting about eating popcorn of course hunties!

According to the twitter-verse Faleena’s cock-hammer of justice has allegedly been taking down reviews on Amazon that have simply dared using the word cocky.

In a classic cocky cock up on Twitter that we’ve come to expect of our cocky kween. Faleena claims she has in fact not been taking down people’s reviews for that reason but rather because people have been giving her books one-star ratings unfairly.

  9. Hah! This is fantastic. I’ve never heard of this author until all of this, so yeah, definitely not ever interested in supporting her. Nobody deserves death threats, but she should most certainly NOT be going after people with similar sounding titles, etc. That’s the world of romance…and book publishing in general sometimes. Lots of books sound the same, or have VERY similar titles. Get over it. Sheeeesh. lol

  10. I have never heard of this author until this whole mess happened. I have been trying to keep up to date with it all, thank you for your updates and great story. She has also been telling people that they cant use a list of names and the author of Fifty shades of grey is in on it too. As I said before on a twitter post she can write a book called Defamation of yourself: A how to guide by Cocky trade-maker. *Now to make a new batch of popcorn and watch the drama unfold.*

    2. Thanks Tessa! I honestly think some authors take the whole thing entirely too personal lol. Like unable to handle criticism because to them, criticizing their work is criticizing them personally. I think this happens ESPECIALLY when authors don’t have boundaries between their fans and themselves in this day and age of social media. In Faleena’s case it seems like she fed into her (alleged) fans’ praise so much it made her too… cocky 😉 hohoho

  14. Great post ladies 🙂 Thanks for gathering the pertinent info. The most puzzling part of the whole situation is that other than a few multi author worlds, most readers shop via Author name recognition, not the name of the book. They may look for a specific named book if they are waiting for the new release- but most are searching via name when looking for a new book. That’s why most other authors will write more than on series – and have buyers and readers. I personally have never heard of this author before, and I’ve been reading indy romances and ARC’ing for about a year and a half, and reading the traditional genre for 25 years. She is on my do not read list now, even if its free, as I will not support this kind of behaviour.

    The other issue not mentioned in this blog, though I think is concerning, is that this very questionable Trademark was approved in the first place, which makes you wonder if that program/process is broken or a cash cow.

  16. Thanks for uploading the entire video! I finally got the stomach to watch the entire thing after a few tries and she is something else. Her whole performance reminds me of Meryl Streep in She-Devil, when she played the romance writer, only it was a comedy and Streep is a very good actress.

    @kneupperwriter who is in the middle of this. As someone who writes about Cocky men, he is directly involved, and happens to be a former lawyer who is still barred and can send in a cancellation request. Oh but wait, it gets better, Faleena is suing him, another author, and a publicist for a restraining order. All the documents are on his twitter. Everything is public, and in those documents she states that her readers are unable to tell the difference between authors and that we readers and bloggers are “nasty wolves” for daring to speak bad of her. It goes on, to the tune of 120 pages, but those are a bit of the hot spots. He would be very interested in that video however, as she put in her claim that she is losing $$$ but in her video she says that she is not losing anything. Makes one go hmmmm…

    OH and the font creator has sent her a C&D for using his font illegally.
